I Stand with Coralie

Take a stand against online abuse and violence against women

US rapper Tyler the Creator has announced that he has been banned from Australia.

Collective Shout had written a letter to the Department of Immigration calling for Tyler the Creator's visa to be revoked. We argued that Tyler's behaviour and message would vilify and incite discord in the Australian community, specifically towards women and girls.

The vilification and abuse has begun - incited by Tyler himself - and he hasn't even reached our shores. Tyler's single tweet identifying Coralie Alison as the cause of his visa woes has led to countless threats to rape, mutilate and murder.

Incredibly, it has been reported that the Department of Immigration has not yet made a decision on Tyler's visa, but this has not stopped the rage and the death threats.

In a statement of solidarity, End Online Misogyny has published a sample of the abuse that Collective Shout's Coralie Alison has received. You can view that here. The abuse and threats continue to come in thick and fast.

Meanwhile, we have received an outpouring of support from others who are disgusted with the level of abuse directed towards Coralie. Many are using the hashtag #IStandWithCoralie to show their support for Coralie and other women who dare to take a stand in the public space. The support for Coralie shows that we are not going to take this anymore. We will stand together. We will not be silenced.

The work you’re doing is so important! Hopefully the government makes the right decision regarding Tyler’s VISA.
