Meghan Markle protested sexist advertising as a child

American actress Meghan Markle first spoke out against sexist advertising at age 11. Markle and her classmates watched a series of TV commercials to evaluate their messages in a social studies class. An ad for dishwashing detergent said “Women are fighting greasy pots and pans”. Markle responded, “I don’t think it’s right for kids to grow up thinking these things, that just Mom does everything.” She wrote to the company behind the ad, Proctor and Gamble, asking them to replace the word ‘women’ with ‘people’- which they did.
