Collective Shout co-founder Melinda Tankard Reist was recently a guest on ABC Local radio discussing the sexualisation of childhood.
Other guests on the program included Dr Joe Tucci from the Australian Childhood Foundation, Professor Elizabeth Handsley of the Australian Council on Children and the Media and Maggie Hamilton author of 'What's happening to our Girls?'
The discussion took place following the backlash against department store Target. A mother and educator had posted a comment on Target's Facebook page expressing concern about the range of clothing available for young girls. The comment received over 70,000 'likes' and thousands of comments beneath it, sparking a wider discussion about the sexualisation of children.
