Media Release | Rape Culture in 3D: Petition calls on gaming giant Steam to remove rape/ incest simulation game

Grassroots campaigning movement Collective Shout launched a Change.org petition overnight calling on gaming giant platform Steam to remove ‘No Mercy, a 3D pornographic rape and incest simulation game. The petition is backed by female gamers and sexual assault survivors.

The petition demands Gabe Newell, CEO of Steam’s parent company Valve, remove the game from the company’s global platform immediately.

In the game, players assume the persona of a man who rapes his female family members, including his mother and aunt, as punishment for his mother’s infidelity. The platform is for age 12+ but there are no barriers to stop any child accessing the game.

No Mercy’s description on Steam encourages players to participate in virtual rape scenarios:

“Your goal is simple: leave no pussy non-fucked, since that's the only thing they all want. Never take 'no' for an answer.”

“Fuck your mom, fuck your auntie, and even fuck your friend’s mom. Why not?”

“Already a fan favorite in the NSFW Game Incest community.”

The campaign is supported by a large number of female gamers and sexual assault survivors.

“I am a survivor of multiple instances of sexual assault and abuse. As a gamer, I am surviving sexual abuse, threats and just plain female shaming all the time There is such an embedded culture of misogynistic practices, abuse, belittling and toxicity in the male gaming community that I am terrified what behaviour that games like No Mercy will produce.”  - Rhea, NSW

“As both a sexual assault survivor and female gamer, this makes me feel sick. Games like these only add to a growing problem and further isolate other female gamers. I'd like Steam to understand they are equally complicit in the content they distribute. To allow this type of digital abuse makes them equally a perpetrator and pimp.”  – Katrina, Vic

“I feel violated, disgusted, angry and very scared. I'm scared for my niece who likes to game and what this will do to her and other girls…Men seem to find gaming as permission to revert to most horrendous misogyny and toxic masculinity. They enact rape and assault in games…In No Mercy you can live out your rapist and paedophilia dreams. It needs to be banned! Not only to protect girls and women but also to teach men what healthy relationships look like.” – Mel, S.A

“As someone who has gone through sexual abuse as a child at the hands of a family member, I find this game horrendous and dangerous and was sickened when I first read about it. It is heartbreaking that boys are learning to see sexual abuse and incest as just entertainment. It is triggering to all survivors.” – Justine, Vic

Campaigns Manager Caitlin Roper said that by treating rape as entertainment, No Mercy puts all women at risk.

“Steam is complicit. In hosting this rape simulation game, they are endorsing crimes of violence against women,” she said.

“While we are working to prevent men’s violence against women, Steam is actively promoting r*pe and incest to young men.”

Following Collective Shout’s complaint to the Australian Classification Board, the game has been geo-blocked in Australia, but remains available in other countries.

The petition follows Collective Shout’s recent success in forcing Spotify to remove toxic male influencer Andrew Tate’s instructional sex trafficking courses from their platform, following a 155,000-signature petition.
