Pornhub hosts hundreds of Coronavirus-themed porn videos

Pornhub, the largest pornography site in the world, is hosting hundreds of Coronavirus- themed pornographic videos. Many of the videos involve people wearing face masks, and scenarios based on quarantine, perpetuating racist stereotypes of Asian women and encouraging sexual harassment of nurses.

One pornographer behind some of this content told Vice he produced it to “raise awareness” of the illness, and that it was intended to help inform viewers about mask usage and how the virus spreads. We’re not buying it.

Far from altruism, the porn industry is capitalising on a global pandemic which has already killed thousands of people. The sex trade has always been quick to exploit global crises, natural disasters and tragedy for their own profits. Pornographic material based on the degradation and dehumanisation of women, and reinforcing the notion that women both exist for and enjoy men’s sexual exploitation, harms women and girls.
