Pull Schoolies porn billboard: our urgent call to Gold Coast Mayor

Update: Due to community feedback Goa have pulled the billboard early.

After highlighting the growing trend of OnlyFans pornographers preying on teen boys at Gold Coast school leavers Schoolies events, we are now calling on Gold Coast City Council elected officials Mayor Tom Tate and Councillor Darren Taylor to urgently remove OnlyFans porn perfomer Kay Manuel's Schoolies porn billboard. Read our email to them below.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate and Cr Darren Taylor

Dear Mayor Tate and Councillor Taylor,

We are calling on you to prioritise the safety of community members including vulnerable and underage teens who have flocked to your city for end of school celebrations – and take immediate action to pull Kay Manuel’s porn billboard.

Positioned in Surfers Paradise – the heart of Schoolies activities – the billboard trades on harmful female teacher porn tropes and points viewers to a URL promoting links to various websites and social media platforms where Manuel’s pornographic content can be accessed. The billboard also features icons promoting related accounts on 13+ social media platforms Instagram and TikTok, and 17+ X (Twitter).

Evidence compiled during our years of campaigning, advocacy and research into the harms of pornography shows that the predatory porn industry is damaging young people, and reshaping their ideas about respect, relationships and sexuality. It also contributes to men’s violence against women. Our newly released Sexual Harassment of Teachers (SHoT) Report published in collaboration with parenting educator and author Maggie Dent demonstrates again how women and girls are paying a high price as boys – shaped and emboldened by porn exposure – abuse, harass and degrade them. (Read more here.)

Manuel is currently targeting and recruiting ‘barely legal’ teen boys at school leavers events in your City, using social media posts along with the billboard in an attempt to recruit teen boys to perform sex acts on video to be shared to OnlyFans. (Read more here.) We and other child safety experts are deeply concerned for the these boys’ welfare, knowing that producing porn content now has the potential for lasting, damaging repercussions. Parents and educators have also spoken out against Manuel’s predatory tactics.

We urge you to take immediate action to remove the billboard advertisement and to not allow pornographers to promote porn to all-ages audiences, which include children, in your city again. Last year we celebrated a win and commended the City of Stirling (Perth) after it introduced new outdoor advertising rules to block porn billboards. (Read about our win and our campaign calling on other city councils to introduce similar rules to block porn ads here.) We hope to hear back from you quickly with an update on measures you have taken to protect vulnerable community members – especially underage Schoolies attendees and other children – from this harmful ad. We would be pleased to let our thousands of supporters know of your positive action.

Sincerely,

The Team at Collective Shout - for a world free of sexploitation

Manuel has a history of taking out Gold Coast billboard space to flog pornographic content to all-ages audiences, as evidenced by an Instagram post from June 2024:
