Update - WIN! Revolution Beauty, ditch your p*rn-themed ads

*Update - WIN! Revolution Beauty quietly deletes images from social media platforms*

UK-based cosmetics company Revolution Beauty has been slammed on social media for its porn-themed advertising.

A social media post shared yesterday includes close-up images of a woman’s open mouth, a tube of lip gloss between her lips and thick liquid gloss dripping from her lips, apparently referencing semen.

It appears Revolution Beauty (Makeup Revolution on socials) concluded the best way to market lipstick to women was to reduce them to mouths that exist to sexually service men – as mere receptacles for semen.

But while the company has resorted to sexist porn tropes to flog its products, social media users aren’t buying it.

So awful that we are still here in 2024 with this sexist, unoriginal and harmful marketing style still being executed. How many adults were involved in this ad and nobody said “Hey wait, maybe this isn’t a good idea”?

Is it called P*rn Star Gloss? Crikey.

This is the worst marketing campaign I’ve seen lately. As a women, I’m honestly disgusted and would not touch this product! So who are you selling this to…Men or Women?? You’re obviously not creating this ad to sell much.

Yuk.

Gloss dripping from lips suggestive of semen - Makeup Revolution this campaign speaks volumes of your views of women. Sexualising and degrading. #notbuyingit

100% cruelty free… except when it comes to harming women

I normally like Makeup Revolution but this is absolutely revolting. Why on earth would I want the imagery of ejaculate on a woman's lips to sell me lip gloss?

Marketing team: We’ve got some lip gloss to shift, the demographic: twenty-something women.

Marketing lead: Men would respond well to a “j*zz on lip” lip gloss vibe.

Marketing team: Gentlemen, we’re in the presence of genius.

Is this for men's consumption?

Time to remove this ad and try again... maybe try selling to women this time... just a suggestion.

I have never used your products and after this never would. Such a degrading campaign.

Vulgar. I won't be buying any of your lip balm or gloss or any of your products. Women don't want to be portrayed like this and this advertising is demeaning.

It's not too late to delete this and issue an apology.

Is this an advertisement for a p*rn film? Why are you objectifying women?

Stop disrespecting women.

According to Revolution Beauty’s website, “We are social, real … we listen, react, innovate, improve … We believe in your voice.”

Revolution Beauty, believe in our voice now as we tell you to pull the sexist, regressive, porn-themed ads. Women are human beings. We hope you listen, react, innovate and above all, improve.
