AI, "deepfakes" and sex dolls highlighted in our evidence to UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls
New and emerging technologies bring with them novel means for men to commit acts of violence against women and girls. We highlighted several of these in our January 2025 Submission to Reem Asalaem, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, including:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) in connection to pornography
- "Deepfake" image based abuse + nudifying apps
- the explosion of prostitution on digital platforms like OnlyFans
- Sex dolls modelled on bodies of women and girls, marketed for men's sexual use
- Wearable smart devices used to track and stalk women and girls
- Digital currencies used in prostitution and sex trafficking of women and girls to avoid tracking by authorities
- Big Tech faciliated online abuse targetting specific women (including our own Team)
