Honey Birdette has rolled out a new porny ad campaign - before the self-regulated industry “watchdog” Ad Standards has even finished ruling on ads from its last campaign. In this latest show of ad industry self-regulation failure, the sex store’s upskirting and tennis-themed ads were bumped to make way for a new objectifying and porn-inspired casino-themed campaign - timed ahead of the opening of its new Las Vegas store - dubbed ‘Lucky Number’.

Revised ad Code of Ethics fails to bring repeat offender Honey Birdette into line
Billionaire business mogul Brett Blundy’s sex shop brand Honey Birdette has served up another round of porn-themed ads in family-friendly shopping centres around the country. As in previous campaigns, the floor-to-ceiling ads are sexualised and sexist: near-naked women reduced to body parts, undressed (bar a few straps and the odd transparent-mesh panel) and posed - legs spread and vulvas on show - for the male gaze.

The presence of Santa in public places like shopping malls naturally attracts the interest of children. This fact seems to have no bearing at all on sex store Honey Birdette, which has a long history of appropriating the popular figure of Christmas cheer in its full length window displays.

One man, five days and actually caring about the community has achieved what Ad Standards, a comprehensive advertising Code of Ethics (and accompanying Practice Note), a 22-member panel and a weeks-long review process could not: takedown of a sexist, objectifying advertisement from Perth’s public buses.
