“Not real”, “freedom of expression”, “don’t like it, don’t play”: Responding to gamers defences of Steam rape game

UPDATE: Scroll down to see our response to Zerat Games (developer of No Mercy)

Earlier this week, we exposed 12+ gaming platform Steam hosting rape and incest-themed game No Mercy. In the game, players assume the persona of a man who rapes his female family members as revenge for his mother’s infidelity.

Following our complaint to the Australian Classifications Board, the game was taken down in Australia. Canada and the UK followed, and developer Zerat Games withdrew the game, while our petition hit over 70k signatures – all in less than a week!

In response to our campaign against the rape simulation game, we were subjected to harassment and abuse from gamers defending their access to it (and proving our point in the process). We respond to their arguments below.

“You deserve to get raped”: Female gamer speaks out against rape, incest games and rampant misogyny in gamer community

During our campaign to get 3D pornographic rape and incest simulation game No Mercy off the Steam gaming platform, we heard from many female gamers distressed about the game. We have shared some of their stories already - gamers who were also survivors of sexual assault including incest. We have since discovered hundreds of other rape and incest-themed games on Steam, as well as a large number of child sexual abuse simulation games on Itch-io and other platforms. We’ve also learned that PayPal even facilitates and profits from their sale. As a result, our campaign against games which treat sexual violence as entertainment is ongoing.

Here’s Ashlea’s thoughts and experience as a female gamer.

More than 3000 emails to Steam CEO Gabe Newell. 70K signatures on our petition. Global media attention.

Making it loudly known that we object to 3D rape + incest simulation games that treat sexual violence as entertainment.

Another victory because there were so many of you who cared enough to protest.

We thank you. And press on.

Female gamers and sexual assault survivors join Collective Shout in condemning No Mercy rape and incest game

Posted on News by Coralie Alison · April 11, 2025 5:05 PM · 1 reaction

No Mercy is a newly released pornographic 3D game developed by Zerat Games and hosted on 12+ gaming platform Steam. In the rape simulator game, players assume the persona of a man who rapes his female family members, including his mother and aunt, as punishment for his mother’s infidelity.

No Mercy features deeply disturbing pornographic depictions of rape and incest as entertainment. It promotes harmful stereotypes of masculinity based on violence and domination and reinforces male sexual entitlement to women’s bodies.

This game encourages men to “own” and “subdue” women. Rape and humiliation are portrayed as appropriate punishment for disobedient women. Women are framed as secretly desiring rape.

This week Collective Shout launched our petition calling on Gabe Newell, CEO of Steam’s parent company Valve to remove the game from the global platform.
