Join us in celebrating girls today!

Posted on News by Coralie Alison · October 11, 2018 7:00 AM · 1 reaction

Today is International Day of the Girl, and we want to celebrate by helping girls live in a society free from sexploitation.

Thanks to supporters like you, we have seen degrading and sexist ads removed from Wicked Campers in Queensland, ACT and Tasmania, but there is still more that needs to be done to stop these ads nationally!

That’s why on this special day to celebrate girls, we are asking for your support. Just $48 will help us to continue to campaign to stop businesses like Wicked Campers promoting sexist advertising campaigns that denigrate women and girls. But we can’t do it without you.

Your $48 will have double the impact, thanks to a generous donor matching every gift up to $100,000.

Please donate today.

Wicked Campers van reprimanded for ‘insensitive’ sexual innuendo between girl and judge

Posted on News by Coralie Alison · August 19, 2018 9:19 AM

According to Mumbrella infamous car rental company Wicked Campers has had one of its ads banned yet again for using an “insensitive” and “inappropriate” slogan, “Girl sits on judges lap and gets a honorable [sic] discharge”.

Ad Standards said despite there being no accompanying image on the van, the tagline used was a sexual connotation and suggested a power imbalance between a judge and a girl.

Child Sex Dolls fuel pedophilia - why is Wish selling them?

Posted by Melinda Liszewski · August 19, 2018 9:09 AM

Who said this was ok?

Collective Shout exposed Wish Shopping for selling child sex dolls months ago.

The popular online shopping app boasting 300 million subscribers around the world, responded to complaints about the dolls by saying it would remove the items from its sales platform. It appeared they removed some of the items but many remained on the site.

Follow up complaints to Wish have been ignored. Needless to say, Wish hasn't responded with the urgency this deserves.

Child sex dolls are illegal in the UK and Australia. Speaking out against Wish Shopping's child sex dolls, Paul Green, Member of the NSW Legislative Council higlighted the stiff penalties for importing Child Sex Dolls into Australia:

Recently the Australian Border Force has intercepted the importation of nine child sex doll across Australia. The Australian Border Force has committed to pursuing the full force of the law in these cases, with penalties including fines of up to $450,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years against anyone attempting to import these objects.

The US - where Wish Shopping Headquarters are located - is following the lead of Australia and the UK. A bill to outlaw child sex dolls under the proposed "Creeper Act" is currently before the US Senate having already passed the US House of Representatives. The Curbing Realistic Exploitative Electronic Pedophilic Robots (CREEPER) Act will ban the importation and transportation of child sex dolls.

Wish allows businesses and manufacturers from around the world to sell through its app. By continuing to turn a blind eye to - and profit from - the criminal actions of businesses trading in child sexual abuse material, Wish is complicit. The company is worth 8.5 billion dollars, we cannot be silent while Wish profits from the sexual exploitation of children.

What would advertising look like without objectification?

Posted on News by Caitlin Roper · June 07, 2017 4:42 PM · 2 reactions

The objectification of women is so unremarkable in advertising and popular culture that it’s sometimes hard to envisage what an alternative might look like. Is it possible to advertise lingerie or swimwear without objectifying women, we are asked? Is objectification in the amount of flesh revealed, or is it more than that? Where is the line between women being merely attractive and objectified?
