Too Sexy Too Soon

Melinda Tankard Reist is an author, speaker, media commentator and blogger. She is best known for her work addressing sexualisation, objectification, harms of pornography and sexual exploitation of our children.

Melinda takes young people and parents on a visual ‘tour’ of media and popular culture. Unpacking with them the images, messages and ideas they receive every day from toys, games, music videos, advertising, marketing, clothing, magazines etc. She helps them understand how these messages contribute in harmful ways to their views of themselves, their bodies, relationships and sexuality, negatively affecting their physical, emotional and social development. 

There’s a component in the presentation for the older students on sexting and pornography and a discussion on what respect-based relationships look like. She then explores how they can respond personally and collectively to address these issues.
