Instagram has responded directly to our #WakeUpInstagram campaign by adding a new in-app reporting tool to report accounts which sexualise children.
The new tool for reporting entire accounts will help flag users which share and host content which exploits children, and expedite review and takedown of these accounts.
Earlier this year Instagram added a tool for reporting individual posts which sexualised children and while this allowed moderators to prioritise review of these posts, the overall context in which the posts were shared was often missed. The new tool closes that gap.
There’s much more to be done on Instagram, but this is a good start.
