Mitch Dowd's 'Girl Boxer' pin-up range sexualises girls
Collective Shout have previously spoken out about the sexualisation of children's underwear. In 2010 Best and Less was forced to remove the 'tweenage' push up bra from their shelves following community uproar. Bonds withdrew their 'bralettes' and padded bras in sizes below size 10 after we published an article on this last year.
Mitch Dowd seems to have flown under the radar, until now.
Mitch Dowd's Girl Boxer range features a range of padded and contoured bras for girls as young as 8 years old, bright frilly underwear with satan, cotton and lace. Check out the marketing for this underwear on their website:

Pin up range? Cheeky? Do 8 year olds have an 'inner sassy pin-up girl?'
Well according to Mitch Dowd they do and they may want to 'glam up' their 'lingerie drawer.' The images included in the online catalogue are of a young looking model adopting the appearance and pose of a 'pin-up.' She even wears high heels with her underwear.
Mitch Dowd's promotion of this product range sends the message to girls that underwear serves the purpose of making them look attractive for men. The combination of high heels, padding and 'pin up' style designs demonstrate what the intention is here. They have sexualised little girls through their advertising and have contributed to the harms associated with sexualisation - low self esteem, negative body image, eating disorders, earlier onset of sexual behaviour. They have depicted girls as a legitimate target of men's sexual interest.
