WIN: Shareholders dump Playboy after our calls to divest

*Content warning

Six investment firms have (quietly) sold off their Playboy shares after our calls to divest from the global porn empire. They are:

  • Goldman Sachs
  • California State Teachers Retirement System
  • Nuveen (Note: we are calling on Nuveen to dump its strip club shares too!)
  • New York State Common Retirement Fund
  • State of Wyoming
  • Deutsche Bank

Last year, we wrote to 10 shareholders who were also signatories of the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment, urging them to dump their shares. We said that by investing in Playboy, these companies were violating their commitments to responsible investment and directly contravening the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Disempowerment: Playboy sex shop Honey Birdette's pornified BDSM shop window ads objectify women + sexualise children

We also targeted investors on X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn.

Playboy's share price has plummeted in the last 12 months. Playboy is currently listed as 'Noncompliant' with NASDAQ requirements due to its persistent sub-$1.00 bid price. This could lead to Playboy's delisting from the stock market - an outcome we would welcome.

We will continue to call on Playboy shareholders - including Blackrock, Vanguard, State Street, Northern Trust and Mubadala (Abu Dhabi state owned sovereign wealth fund - no, we're not making this up) to prioritise the wellbeing of women and children and divest from this long time corporate sexploitation offender.
